Mission, Bilbao, Spain: European Capital of Culture International Delegation

The Pittsburgh Technology Council’s Creative Technology Network is now taking applications for our first annual international benchmarking mission. This year, on September 18th-21st, we will be visiting Bilbao, a storied city located in the Basque region of northern Spain. The “Bilbao effect,” as it has become known, describes a city that has dramatically reinvented itself through well directed investments in the arts, transportation infrastructure and urban design.
During this mission, our participants will enjoy first-hand learning opportunities through case studies, direct interaction with thought leaders, and site visits to some of the city’s treasured assets. The trip aims to be a case study on successful urban redevelopment through arts, infrastructure, and design, as well as a lesson on how to build inclusive community support for critical projects.

Creative Industries Day at New Orleans' Entrepreneur Week

Featuring two panel discussions with Kim Chestney, Jeanne Nathan and New Orleans Arts Leaders
The Creative Industries economic sector generates 30 million jobs globally and $704.2 billion in U.S. GDP alone. It is also one of the fastest growing economic sectors. What does this mean for New Orleans?  What is the role of creatives and other economic development business and civic leaders?

These are questions the Creative Alliance of New Orleans (CANO), Louisiana Cultural Economy Foundation (LCEF) and the Downtown Development District (DDD) are addressing with the special program, "Creative Industries Day" that opens on the first day of New Orleans Entrepreneur Week, Monday, March 20 at 11:00am., continuing through to 8:30pm, at the Contemporary Arts Center and at the Ogden Museum. A special invite-only event and reception will be held at the Ogden Museum, 6:30-8:30pm.

2017 International Economic Development Summit:Revving Up Your Creative Industries with Incubation and Acceleration Services

Presented by Kim Chestney and creative economic development leaders from Washington DC, Jacksonville and Canada.
When someone speaks of incubators and accelerators, the first thing that comes to most mind is tech companies. Creative industries -- such as design, music, or online apps and games -- need the same support services and programs that help get tech companies off the ground. This session will look at how EDOs can support the creative industries and their entrepreneurs to ensure a high-growth and dynamic local economy.
What you'll learn:
• Best practices from incubation and acceleration programs focused on creative industries
• Supporting entrepreneurs at the intersection of creativity and technology
• Preparing your creative industries to compete globally
The IEDC Leadership Summit, organized by the International Economic Development Council will take place from 29th January to the 31st January 2017 at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront in Jacksonville, United States Of America. Attendees will see examples of what is happening at the local level and how these successes can be replicated in their communities.
